Woke up to 33 degrees Saturday morning!  Whoa!  Once it warms up, it has been very nice the past two days.  Much better than the 90+ temperature we have been having.  With all the rain we received this past week, Table Rock Lake came up two feet.  It is currently a little over 917 feet.  They opened up three spillways day before yesterday at a foot each.  This is in addition to the equivalent of three generators they are running.  Scheduled to be the same tomorrow.  We’ll just have to wait and see what the rest of this coming week will hold.

Last Tuesday, Carolyn took Rick and Vic out for half a day.  Good day for these two good fly fishers on the Red or Cerise San Juan worms.  Gina took Roger and Millie out for half a day and they too were catching on the Red and Cerise San Juan worms.

Wednesday, Carolyn had one of our long-time fishers, Terry from Oklahoma on the water.  Very good day for Terry mainly on the Cerise San Juan and a dark roe egg pattern.  Darren had Joe  out of California out for half a day.  They were catching on a size 16 scud and a pink San Juan worm.  Jim’s guy, Rod, was catching on a scud and a red San Juan worm.  They were out for a full day and when four units came on around 2:00, the water trashed up and fishing went south.  Fish caught were nice, solid ones!

on Thursday.  Another good time for them on the pink San Juan worm, various red midges and did a little stripping of the JQ at Lookout Island.  Mike from Texas, spent a full day on the water with Darren.  They were catching on an orange egg pattern, a scud, and the Cerise worm.  They best the rain….by and inch!  Doug wanted to get Carol started fly fishing, so they spent half a day with Carolyn.  She got her roll cast down, mending, getting a good drift and even set the hook on a few fish but we never got them to the

net!  Think she likes it as she said, “I’ll do this again!”  It was then up to Doug to get the fish to the net for the rest of the trip.  Best pattern was the dark roe egg pattern.

When summer stopped, it stopped!!  Woke up this morning to 40 degrees.  Lots of rain all last night in through early morning.  Looked at the lake total and so far, they are recording 3 inches.  Have heard reports of up to 8 inches in some areas.  Nice and sunny now with the temperature at 46 degrees.  Might hit low 50s today.  Saturday should be mid 60s and Sunday through Tuesday, low 70s.  Low to mid 70s into next weekend.  See some rain by next Sunday.

Not certain what we are going to see in generation flow.  Hear they are cracking two gates by one foot, but they should not exceed typical power generation releases.  Typical?

Lots of fishing the past several days.  A week ago Thursday. Darren took Ron and Marlene out for half a day.  This was Marlene’s first try at fly fishing and she did well.  They landed fish on the pink San Juan worm under the red tungsten bead San Juan.  Carolyn had Gary and Jim out for half a day.  They were catching on the red San Juan worm.

Looks like we are in a cooling pattern.  However, it did turn out a lot warmer today than the forecast.  Tomorrow is supposed to be in the low 60s and a 90% chance of rain.  After that, low to mid 70s almost all week.  By Friday, another cold front so temps might hit upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend.   Chances of rain both Thursday and Friday.

This weekend, the flow has been a low one unit (35 mw).  This give us 2100-2600 cfs and about three feet elevation.  Definitely wadeable in some areas and a nice, slow drift for the boats.

Carolyn on the water last Friday with Mike from Iowa.  Mike has been fishing with River Run for over 13 years.  Good fisher and enjoys relaxing and catching fish on Taneycomo.  Really good day for Mike on the Red San Juan worm and the holographic green crackleback.

Saturday, Dana took James and his son, Stewart out for a full day.  They had a good day on the orange egg pattern and the red d-rib midge.  They had so much fun, they booked a second day on Sunday.  Jim was out with Gary and Drew from Texas.  Pretty new to fly fishing so they worked on casting techniques, but definitely had a good day catching on the size 8 JQ streamer.

This past Tuesday, Susan from here in Missouri spent a full day on the water with Carolyn.  She had taken the Orvis school but has not had a lot of time on the water.  We certainly spent a good day of refreshing her school while she was catching fish all day on the red San Juan worm and stripping the holographic green crackleback.  Several nice fish over 17 inches.

Looks like the hot weather is moving on.  90s is too warm for September and today looks like the last one we will have.  Upper 70s tomorrow and then 70s for the next two weeks!  Yeah!  Slight chances for rain over the weekend and again next weekend and throughout the week.

They seem to be back to the low flow during the morning hours and then kicking it up to the equivalent of two to three units by 1:00 or 2:00 p.m.

Lots of nice quality fish being caught.  Almost every trip is bringing in at least one fish 17 inches or better!  And, they are fat!

Looks like rain tonight that should be out of here by tomorrow.  Good news is the temperatures are moving into the upper 70s to low 80s.  Yeah!  No more 90 degree days.  Chances for rain Tuesday through Thursday and then again over the weekend.

We continue to see low one unit running 24/7 through Monday.  Let’s hope that is the pattern, or better yet, no generation.  We shall see.  Good news is that at this level, several folks were standing in the water this morning.

Great weather!  70s and 80s the past few days.  Looks like low 90s through most of the coming week, and maybe into the 80s through the weekend.  Right now, slight chances of rain next Sunday and Monday.

Schedule for this weekend showed no generation Saturday.  NOT!  Ran a little less than a full unit almost all day.  Ramped it up to a low two late in the day.  Today, however, they are following their schedule!  No generation going…..at least for right now.  Projection for tomorrow is zero units until noon, then a low two units ramping up to three units within one hour.  Running three units for five hours.

Satuday, Carolyn took Mike and his daughter, Mica, out for half a day.  Mike has done some fly fishing, but this was brand new for Mica.  After we worked out a few “kinks” on casting and line management, it was off to catching.  Mica played her first

fish on a fly rod like she had been doing it for a long time.  We started the morning with lots of hits and fish on the apricot egg.  Around 10:30 a.m. they decided no more eggs and we switched to a gray or UV gray scud under the big ruby and started catching again.

We are still seeing 90s and the past few days it has been mid to upper 90s.  We’re ready for some relief.  Not much in the way of rain chances until late next week.  We’ll see.

Very little change in the generation pattern.  Low one unit until noon or 1:00 p.m.

Laura – 9/7/19

Carolyn had a new fly fishing lady, Laura, and her husband, Joe, on the water Saturday.  This was Laura’s day and she did well.  First fish on a fly rod!  Best patterns were the cerise San Juan worm, or a clown egg.  Drifted either of these under the big ruby as they had a unit going.

They had a good day.  It was another cerise San Juan worm or apricot supreme egg pattern under the big ruby.  Mainly, it was the egg pattern.

Bill and Dan from Platte City fished with Jim on Monday.  Pretty new so Jim worked with them on skills.  Caught a few fish on the size 8 JQ and a size 12 scud.

Wednesday, Jayson and Darren, (they just finished our 2-day Orvis School, fished with Jim.  Another JQ and scud day.

We are still seeing very warm days.  90s and humid both yesterday and again today.  Looks like we will continue to see this trend until the end of next week when it seems to be moving into the mid 80s.  Not much in the way of moisture in the forecasts.

Lots of fishing going on.  Still experiencing tough days and some okay days.  That time of the year.  We will continue catching fish, but we get spoiled from the Spring fishing when you’re catching lots of fish.  When the dissolved oxygen starts going down, numbers of fish to the net also go down.  As mentioned in one of our earlier posts, take some extra time with you fish when you land them.  Make certain they are totally revived.  They are fighting hard, but are exhausted by the time you get them to the net.  Starting to see quite a few dead fish on the bottom possibly due to poor releases.

Darren on the water last Saturday with Matt and Devin.  Not a lot of fish, but nice size.  Best pattern was the #18 black copperhead midge.

Sunday, Darren was back on the water again.  This time he had Todd and Scottie out for half a day.  A little better fishing this day on the P&P midge and stripping the holographic green crackleback.  Fun day!

Carolyn had Bob from California out Tuesday.  Worked hard and caught some fish on the holographic green crackleback or drifting the cerise San Juan worm.

Jim – 9/4/19

Thursday, James, from North Carolina, spent the morning with Gina.  They found and landed some fish on the root beer midge and the red tungsten midge.  Jim was on the water with Tom from just outside Kansas City, MO.  They were catching on the JQ, ruby midge or a gray scud.

Today Jim took Joel out and they caught on the size 8 JQ streamer, the ruby midge or a gray scud.  Said it was a definitely better today on the water.

Looks like we are done with the rain for a few days.  This coming week looks like mid 80s almost every day.  Slight chance for rain showing up next Saturday, but right now, it is very slight.

No real change in the generation pattern.  Unfortunately, over the weekend, they started up the units early in the day instead of the 11:00 a.m. or noon they have been doing during the week.  Figure that!  Today, they turned on the first unit at 11:00 a.m.  Think that is the same projection for tomorrow.

Jim on the water Sunday with a couple new fly fishers, Trish and Tim.  The caught a few fish stripping a #8 JQ streamer.  Really spent much of the time learning how to cast.

Monday, Carolyn took John out for half a day.  Slow, tough day.  We landed a decent number of fish but certainly had to work for them.  Our best fishing was probably after they turned on the first unit and we were fishing the rise.  Before that, it was a few on a red soft hackle, then a couple stripping the JQ.   Just before the first horn went off, he hooked one on the ruby 2 so we stayed with this as a dropper under the big ruby while fishing the rise.  Caught several on this and then it dried up when another horn went off.  Pretty day to be on the water!

Rain in the forecast the past four days.  Looks like, after today, it might be out of here until next weekend, when we are seeing slight chances both Friday and Saturday.  Otherwise, sunny days, mostly in the 80s.  Nice!  Had a few trips scheduled that we cancelled due to the forecast of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.  The forecast kind of fizzled out and it really wasn’t as bad as they were saying.

Generation pattern has remained pretty much the same until this weekend.  Yesterday, they turned on two units at 9:00 a.m. and kept them on until evening.  Today, they turned on a low one around 5:00 a.m. and upped it at 10:00 a.m.  A little more than the equivalent of one full unit.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be back to what they have been doing…nothing until noon or so and they two ramping up to three until evening.

Oxygen level has been less than a desirable for the trout.  We are starting to see more dead fish in the water.  Just a reminder, take a little more time with your fish before you release them.  Make certain they are fully revived before sending them on their way.

Saturday, Dana and Carolyn back on the water again.  Kevin and his son, Drew, attended our 2-day Orvis school last year.  They came back to catch some fish and brought Eli (who will soon be part of the family) with them.  This was one of those change in the generation pattern days.  Two generators came on at 9:00 a.m. but was and did remain at that flow day.  Thank you.  Dana took Kevin and they were catching on the ruby 2 with a red San Juan dropper.  Carolyn’s guys, Drew and Eli had a good day fishing the big ruby with a ruby 2 dropper or a cerise San Juan worm dropper.  The ruby 2 dried up late in the morning so the San Juan was it.  Also caught on the JQ streamer with a 4 ips sinking leader.  Rained like the devil a couple time this day and the forecast was showing it moving out.   So much for forecast!
