Stan Parker

Stan Parker, aka “Pops”  or “Stan the Man” is co-owner of the shop.  Prior to becoming a river guide, Stan was with the Johnson County, Kansas Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff.   After fishing Taneycomo for many years with ultra-light spinning equipment, Stan started fly fishing Taneycomo in the mid 1960s.  He started guiding professionally in 1997 and his first customer, Doc Stewart,  has become a good friend and still goes out with him six or seven times a year.   With his diverse knowledge of fly fishing techniques, he’ll always get you into fish.

Our question to each of our guides:  what do you enjoy the most about guiding?

Stan – ” I enjoy meeting people and love to pass on my enjoyment of the sport.  I like to share what I have learned over many years of flyfishing with my client so he or she can accelerate their learning curve and not go through the trial and error that I worked through over time.”

Sad to say, Stan retired from guiding in 2019.  He has matured to the point where it’s a little more challenging for him to get into and out of the drift boats.  You’ll still see him on occasion at the shop working with customers.
