Fly Fishing Schools/Fly Tying Classes

River Run offers a variety of classes geared at teaching you the “fine art” of fly fishing. From tying flies to actually getting them wet, there’s something to learn here for everyone.  Two-day fly fishing schools are being scheduled as requested. Call and check on our two-people special rate. Classes include 1/2 day classroom learning about equipment, knots, aquatic entomology, water reading, stream etiquette, plus tips on continuing your learning process. The afternoon is at the water learning basic casts. Second day is on the water refining your casting, learning various presentation techniques and catching fish. All equipment is furnished. We have an excellent selection at our store if you prefer to purchase your equipment. Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Fly Fishing Clinics 

  • March  25, 2017-  Spey/Switch rod clinic – Casting, line configuration and basic understanding of application ($60.00)  If there is enough interest, we will also offer an advanced clinic this year.  Please let us know if you are interested in the advanced clinic. 
  • April 22, 2017 – Open Fly Fishing Clinic (men & women) – Knots, bugs, know your equipment, casting, and presentation ($80.00/person)
  • May 20, 2017 – Women Fly Fishing Clinic – Same program as

  • June 10, 2017 – Open Fly Fishing Clinic – (men & women) Same program as above ($80.00/person)

The spey/switch rod clinic starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs to 12:30 p.m.  Equipment for this clinic is provided.  Fee for the clinic is $60.00.  Call and reserve your space as clinic size is limited.  417-332-0460

Open Fly Fishing Clinics start at 8:30 a.m. and runs to 5:00 p.m. Basic clinics will include classroom time learning about equipment, understanding of leaders, tippet, fly lines, knots, a little about bugs and their importance in fly fishing.  Stream side work on basic casting, presentation and line management.  Lunch is included as well as equipment, if needed. Basic and “Taneycomo/White River fly” fly tying clinics will be offered again this year starting in December.   The basic clinics will introduce you to equipment, materials, working with dubbing, hackles, and tying 1-2 basic patterns.  The “Taneycomo/White River fly” clinics cover how to tie as well as discussions on how to fish flies such as: Sculpins, Soft Hackles, Crackle Backs and Midges. All fly tying and casting sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m. All materials and equipment are furnished and all fly tying clinics are free.  Classes sizes are limited. Jan, 14 – Egg Patterns, sowbugs and flashback scuds – Expand the techniques you learned in the basic fly tying plus these are must have patterns for Taneycomo

Jan. 21 – Let’s talk Bluegill flies and fishing

Jan 28 – Nymphs, Hare’s Ear and Pheasant Tail

Feb 4 Basic Fly Tying

Feb. 11 – Dry Fly

Feb. 18 – Soft hackle/Crackleback

Feb 25- Big Ugly and 56er

March 4 – Streamers such as sculpin, Tiger Tail, JQ, etc.

March 12 – Terrestrials
