Well, we finally got hit with some winter weather.  We really should not complain as we have had some very nice days (6os and 70s) over the past several weeks.  This past Saturday (Valentine’s Day) was one of them.  However, looking out at the projections for the coming week, it looks like normal winter weather.  Upper 30s tomorrow and a slight chance for some more flurries or snow showers tomorrow afternoon.  20s Wednesday and low 30s Thursday.  Friday is upper 30s but icy start, rain, possible in the early a.m.  Although warmer Saturday (40s) showers are possible and snow showers are a possibility on Sunday.  Oh well, much can change during the week.

Debbie – 2/14/15

For the most part, we have had lots of no generation time this past week.  It was all weekend and on for a little while this morning, but is now off again.  During the week, it was on for 2-3 hours then off during the late morning and early afternoon then back on for a couple hours which is the projection for today.

What a wonderful Valentine’s Day.  Gina stopped by the shop and said she was going fishing.  I was in the process of getting my stuff together so I could go fish for a while.  The two of us met at the river and Debbie was already there fishing away.  When we got to the river, it was in the 60s.  A bit of a breeze, but really enough to cause a nice ripple on the water.  Debbie was catching on midges, and Gina started out with a couple midges.  I tried several different scuplin patterns but little luck.  So, on goes the sinking leader and a holographic green crackleback.  Bingo!  It wasn’t long before all three of us were fishing the holographic crackleback.  Several doubles and at least one triple where the three of us had a fish on at the same time!  What a great Valentine’s Day.

I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy this great weekend we just had.  Temperatures in the 70s both days and low flow on the river!  The next two days will be a little nicer than normal for this time of the year….temperatures in the mid to upper 50s.  However, Thursday will dive to the upper 30s and the weekend looks like 30s, maybe lower 40s.  Back to the real time of the year!

Generation of some type pretty much non-stop since last Wednesday.  However, over the weekend, they did do what they projected with a low one unit running most of the time and a nice 703.8′ level plus or minus, at 1200-1500 cfs.  Nice flow!   It’s wadeable in areas and a great drift!

Claire – 2/7/15

Neat couple on the river Saturday with Carolyn, Claire and Ben.  They are both attending college in Arkansas and Ben wanted Claire to get a taste of fly fishing to see if she would like it.  They hunt together and he was hoping she would go fishing with him too.  Well, I think he succeeded!  Her words were, “I love it”!  It was a great day on the water.  Definitely one of those magic days where everything is working.  Great weather, perfect flow of water, fish were hungry, and Claire picked up on the basics very quickly.  Lots of fish for both of them on the P&P and

Ben – 2/7/15

the ruby midge under either the Lightning Bug or a #16 black midge.  Of course they caught fish on the  holographic green crackleback on sinking leaders!!!  Claire liked this technique as she likes to look around and enjoy the scenery. Claire had a great day for her first time fishing, fishing with a fly rod, and the picture was her first time holding a fish.  Won’t be the last.

Ben – 2/7/15

Saw real light snow flakes this morning.  It was actually kind of pretty as the sun was out!  Weather folks say it is going to be in the upper 30s today, mid 50s tomorrow and Wednesday, then back down into the 40s Thursday.  Good news is that Friday starts 50s again and Saturday should be low 60s with Sunday in the upper 50s.  We can handle that.  Another good week of weather during this winter season!!!

Water was off most of the weekend.  Saturday, they ran some water in the morning then shut it down through Sunday.  Just like most every day last week, today, we had a couple units run for a couple hours this morning, then off.

Tom and Jeff from Kansas City, spent a half day with Jim Saturday.  Good day for these guys on the size 10 JQ olive streamer or bug-eyed bugger.  They also did well on the white grub.

What an outstanding day yesterday!  It actually reached 75 degrees.  Unfortunately, a big change is in the works.  Today we will probably see upper 40s.  We already had 50s this morning and the temperatures are dropping.  Tomorrow will again be in the 50s, but by the weekend, looks like 40s and some moisture.  Let’s hope it stays warm enough to keep that moisture to rain drops instead of snow flakes.  Monday next week looks yuckie but back into the 40s for the rest of the week and pretty much sun and clouds mixed.

The generation schedule has also been cooperative while we were taking advantage of this great weather.  A couple generators for a couple hours yesterday morning, then off the rest of the day.  Nothing on today until 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Gina and Carolyn both had the good fortune to have guide trips Wednesday.  Gina had a half day trip with Jim from Monett.  Even if they had not caught a fish, it would have been a great day.  But, to add to the great day, they did catch fish on the size 18 gray scud, copperhead black zebra midge, and tiny midges under a dry fly.  Fun day!  Doc from Oklahoma spent the day with Carolyn.  Fish seemed spotty.  Catch 4 or 5 fish in an area, then it would dry up.  Move around and hit some more.  Probably best fly of the day was the holographic red midge with black wire spiraled around the body.  Of course, we hooked some on the holographic green crackleback stripping just under the surface where we saw lots of fish dimpling!

What can I say.  It’s January?!  Weather certainly doesn’t feel like it is January.  I am not complaining.  Just keep it up.  Every day we have like this is one less cold, snowy, wintery day!!  Temperatures today and tomorrow will be in the upper 50s.  Wednesday is looking at mid to upper 60s.  Unfortunately, a cool down for the weekend when we will see 40s and a chance for moisture on Saturday.  By next week, we’ll see upper 40s which is great for this time of the year.  No complaints here!

Generation has been pretty cooperative.  Ran some Saturday morning, then off the rest of the day and all day Sunday.  On for a little while this morning, but it’s back off (9:00 a.m.) and at power pool right now…..it’s just a little after 11:00 a.m.  Supposed to be off until late this afternoon.

Jim on the water last Thursday with a couple guys from up north in Missouri, Matt and Brad.  Short half day, but they did very well on the white grub and a #10 JQ Streamer.

Saturday he was out again.  This time with Dave from Kansas.  Good half day for them on the JQ streamer, P&P with a blood worm dropper and the white grub.

Fishing is good.  Better take advantage of this weather.

We have seen 60s the past three days.  Lots of sunshine, and, unfortunately, yesterday and the day before, lots of wind.  However, today is a picture perfect day.   No wind and lots of sunshine.  I know lots of fishers were here on Taneycomo enjoying these days and hope you got to do the same somewhere.  Good weather expected into next weekend.  Upper 40s with a few mid 50s in the forecast.  No chances of moisture except for tomorrow where they are predicting 50% chance of showers in the afternoon.

Generators off all weekend.  Ran some this morning but turned it off by 10:00 a.m.  Supposed to be off until 5:00 this afternoon.  Projection says off tomorrow until 5:00 p.m.  That one we’ll just have to wait and see.  Maybe we’re back into the off during most of the day routine for a while.  We can hope.

Sheila – 1/18/15

On the water yesterday afternoon with Jerry and Sheila, who are from the area.   Started out a little slow.  Jerry went through a hit and miss phase (he hasn’t been fishing for a while) for the first hour.  Once we got the kinks out, we started hooking fish on the holographic green crackleback and JQ streamer on the 1.5 or 2.6 ips sinking leader or line.  When the fish decided they were through with these, we moved and hooked a few on an egg pattern.  Wind was terrible!  30 mph almost steady gust at times.  As the afternoon moved on and the wind died down a little, it turned into an OMG! day.  There was a period, probably the last 45 minutes to hour of our day, when you had a hit or miss on every drift.  If you did not, it was because your fly was missing!  The last fish of the day were an nice, fat 16″ rainbow for Jerry and an 17″ rainbow for Sheila.  What a day to finish the day!

So far, we have dodged the bullet with this rainy/icy weather forecast.  Yesterday and today we were under a wintery conditions alert and actually, it has not been too bad.  In the 30 degree area with little wind.  It actually was not too bad out yesterday and today is definitely okay.  Especially for this time of year!  However, the weather forecast for this coming Friday through the weekend is calling for 50 degree days!   A heat wave!  An no moisture is in the forecast.  Dust off that fly rod……

Non-stop generation for at least the past 7 days.  Some of it has been fairly low, but they have also run enough to raise the level to 708 feet or better in the tailwater.

Few folks out fishing the past few days…..not many.  But for those who are fishing, reports are that the fish are cooperating.  Yesterday was on nothing in particular, but almost anything you fished.

Today will probably be the warmest day of the week.  Single digit might be the case tomorrow night!  Is it Spring yet!

Thank you, we had very little generation from New Years day through Sunday.  They turned it on late Sunday and we have had some level of generation since then  Scheduled to run something all day today.

New Years Day there were seven crazy women from the River Runners Women’s Fly Fishing Club standing in the river having a blast.  Fishing was not fast and furious, but certainly fast enough to keep all of us happy.  And it did…..we fished the 1st, the 2nd and part of the 3rd.  What a way to start the New Year ! ! ! !

What A New Years!!!!

Looks like it is going to be pretty nippy last day of the year.  And, the first day of the New Year doesn’t look much better!  High in the low 30s with a slight chance for moisture.  Best chance for moisture looks like Saturday.  Periods of rain, but at least the temperatures will be in the low 40s…..let’s hope it gets that warm.

Generators were off yesterday from 10:00 a.m. until late afternoon.  Projection is about the same for today, but I don’t think they are scheduled to go off until 1100 a.m.  Who knows what they will do tomorrow!

Stan on the water last Friday with Russell from Oklahoma and his friend Dillen from Kansas City.  Good day for these guys on the black copperhead midge, copper dun, and a peach egg pattern.

Jim out Monday with Tom from Kansas City.  Tom wanted to get a feel for wade fishing this area.  One of those days when they did not stick to the projected schedule.  Didn’t turn the water off until noon, so they worked the water and managed to do some wade fishing at Lookout Island.  It was a black midge and the hot hare’s ear nymph day .

As 2014 comes to an end, we want to again say “Thank You!” to everyone who has made our year a success.  We thank you for your business and hope to see you and be of service again in 2015.

Hope we get to see the sun again some day.  It has been overcast for almost two weeks now… anyway, it certainly feels that way.  Otherwise though, the weather has not been too bad.  Temperatures in the 40s and light winds.  Pretty good for December.  Tomorrow looks like 50 but a chance for showers early in the day.  Christmas day looks like mid 50s and sunshine!?  Great Christmas present.  40s but dry for next weekend.

Pattern this past week was two to three units on each morning from :00-10:00 then off for six to seven hours.  No generation at all this weekend.  Monday’s projection looks like a repeat of this past week.

Bob – 12/20/14

Good day yesterday  for Bob and Ann from Arkansas.  They spent the warmest part of the day on the water with Stan.  It was a copper head black midge and peach egg day.  Carolyn got to go fishing and put a smile on her face with the second cast of an olive filoplume on the 2.6 ips sinking leader.  Nice, fat rainbow.  Fish on everything she threw, mini sculpin, dark red crackleback, tiger tail (best) and olive JQ streamer.  Wonderful couple hours in the water!
