Lots of Wading Time!

Saturday, May 2nd, 2015

No generation, except for one unit for one hour late in the day, yesterday and again today.  The projection is for more of the same tomorrow as well as Monday!

Weather is also favorable until Wednesday when we might see some rain.

Jim - 4/29/15

Jim – 4/29/15

Gina on the river this past Wednesday with her regular, regular, Jim.  He had a great day on the silverhead black zebra midge, ruby 2 and P&P.  Happy man when he came into the shop that afternoon!

Carolyn had a two-day school with Scott from Arkansas.  She even let him catch some fish!  He caught fish on the ruby 2 while nymph-style fishing, a caddis green soft hackle while emerger fishing, and a

holographic green crackleback stripping with the sinking leader.  Enough fish we lost count, but the main thing, he can walk into the river, rig up for whatever he wants to fish and thrown a good line.   Doc and Terry from Oklahoma spent all day on the river with Stan.  Wonderful day for these guys on the ruby 2 and P&P midges.  Anytime you get those two guys together it is a hoot of a day.  Stan was beat up when he got off the river.

Great!

Weather is great!  Water is off!  Only one word can describe the conditions right now….GREAT!  We are expecting 70s to low 80s all the way into the weekend.  Unfortunately, by Wednesday next week we are looking at 80% chances for rain both Wednesday and Thursday with a 60% chance Friday.  As we know though, that certainly can chance.

No generation this past weekend, and so far every day this week, we have had units on in the a.m.   Good news, they have been off by 10:00 a.m. and stayed off until late afternoon or early evening.  Table Rock is now at power pool.

Again, fishing has been great  Stan on the water all day this past Thursday with Gary and Gerry from Ohio.  They were going to go out again on Friday but got rained out.  No problem.  They had a great day Thursday on the ruby 2.

Saturday, Darrell and Stan took Tom and his sons, Brad and Nate out for the day.  The ONLY negative for this day was the WIND!  Certainly makes a drift difficult.  Tom was

Nate - 4/25/15

Brad – 4/25/15

with Darrell and they were catching on the ruby 2 and rusty midges.  Stan had the two young men, Nate and Brad.  Both are fairly new to fly fishing, but had a great day.  Each of them brought a 17 incher to the boat among their many other fish on the ruby 2

Nate - 4/25/15

Nate – 4/25/15

and P&P midges.  Kevin and Steve, were with Jim all day and tearing them up on the little ruby and the hot hare’s ear nymph.

Sorry to sounds like a broken record, but Sunday, Stan took Curtis and Maria out for half a day.  Lots of fish for these two on the ruby 2 midge.    Mac and his friend Bob from Kansas, spent Sunday on the water with Jim.  Another great day on the hot hare’s ear nymph, and the little ruby and P&P midges.  No generation, but lots of wind.

Talk about wind.  Monday, Jim took Mike from Iowa out for half a day.  They put in at the boat ramp and the wind blew Jim’s drift boat up to just below the rebar hole!  Jim didn’t have to lift an oar!  It was a first for Jim!  Good day for Mike on the size 10 JQ streamer, ruby 2 midge, and hot hare’s ear nymph.

Dave - 4/28/15

Dave – 4/28/15

Not quite as windy Tuesday for Dave from Oklahoma.  He had a half day float with Stan and it was another ruby 2 and P&P day.

Just Back From Montana!

Monday, April 27th, 2015

Just got back from Montana early this morning.  That’s a whole nother story…later.  Okay!  What’s been going on here on Taneycomo?  Looks like the weather is good and will continue to be good.  Slight chance of rain tomorrow, but otherwise, mid 60s tomorrow and 70s through Friday.  After that, 80s through the weekend into Monday.

No generation all weekend.  A little blip this morning and projected for 2-4 units to be on this evening from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.  Tomorrow looks like units on for three hours starting at 6:00 a.m. the off until 8:00 pm. again for three hours.  That leaves a lot of wading time!

Last Monday, Jim took Jerry and Ken out for the day.  Great day for these guys on the ruby 2, JQ streamer and the regular ruby.  Only negative for the day was the 30 mph winds we seem to be making a habit of here lately.  Darrell took Spencer and Kacee, from Texas out

Kacee - 4/20/15

Kacee – 4/20/15

for half a day  Great start for these two new fly fishers and newly weds!  Kaycee landed a nice 18 inch rainbow, and they both had a good morning of catching on the ruby 2, black copperhead midge and black zebra midge.  Wanda had the urge to catch a fish, so she spend the morning fishing again with Carolyn.  Great day for Wanda too on the Ruby 2, P&P and copper dun midges, all dropped under the big ruby.  Again, it was a

WINDY day!

Tuesday Kurt and Sue from Arkansas, spent the day with Stan.  These two fly fishers had a greaty day on the ruby 2 and P&P midges.  Two units running and WINDY!  Beginning to sound like a broken record!  Sue was very happy with a

Sue - 4/21/15

Sue – 4/21/15

nice 19-3/4 inch rainbow she caught.  Just could not stretch it that extra 1/4 inches to make it a 20 incher!   Chad started his fly fishing adventure with us in 2009.  Since then, like the rest of us, he is, for no other way to put it, addicted!  He is working on getting his new wife of two years, Julie, addicted.  They spent the afternoon on the water with Carolyn catching fish on the ruby 2 and P&P midges.  Julie also caught a few fish on the

holographic green crackleback stripping under a 2.6 ips sinking leader (you didn’t think she would get away without trying that).  Meanwhile, Chad was pulling the JQ streamer and having a great time.  Wonderful day, again except for the WIND and two units.

In A Word – Awesome!

Sunday, April 19th, 2015

Other than Friday, when we had pop up rain….and at times I mean rain!…weather has been pretty good.  Overcast and a short, slight shower yesterday.  Today it is sunny and very little wind.  Supposed to get rain some time after noon.  That was the forecast this morning.  It is now saying late tonight.  Monday and Tuesday look like 60s and very little chance of rain.  Wednesday is 40% chance with temperatures in the 70s.  60s and slight to good chance of rain by Saturday.

For the most part, no generation this weekend.  Supposed to run 2-3 units for three hours in the morning then off until 7:00 p.m.

Other than Friday, when we had rain off and on most of the morning and early afternoon, fishing has been awesome.  However, Friday was not that bad.  Had we been able to fish instead of ducking in and out of places to get away from the rain, probably would have caught a lot

Cindy - 4/17/15

L Cindy – 4/17/15

more fish.  Carolyn on the water half a day with Ted and Cindy from Kansas.  Cindy’s first time with a fly rod and she handled it very well.

Ted - 4/17/15

Ted – 4/17/15

Had two units going, so we were fishing the black copperhead midge under the big ruby.  Later in the day, Gina took Colby and Cory out for half a day.  This was Cory’s second time fly fishing and she landed a nice 17-1/2″

rainbow,  They were fishing the ruby 2 under the big ruby and Colby got a 17″ rainbow

stripping the holographic green crackleback.

Yesterday, Stan took Gary and Barry, from the Kansas City area out all day.  Awesome day for these guys.  Almost everything on the ruby 2 with a few on the black copperhead midge.  Best fish of the day was caught by Gary on the ruby 2, a nice 20-1/2″ brown

Water Off Tomorrow?!?!?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Rain off and on almost all day today.  However, tomorrow we are looking at 80s and very slight chances of rain.  Friday the chances increase to 50%, mainly late.  Saturday may be a wash out as I am seeing 90% chances, and 80% for Sunday.

Yes, I saw no generation for tomorrow, Thursday, until 2:00 p.m. Then they will turn on one unit for three hours; then three for an hours and finish off with four hours of four units.  Get up and get out!

Richard - 4/14/15

Richard – 4/14/15

Rich from Kansas and his friend Tom, spent Tuesday morning and early afternoon on the river with Stan.  Nice 18 inch rainbow caught on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Good quantity of

Tom - 4/14/15

nice fish for these guys.  Tom had not been fly fishing for quite some time but he picked up on it again pretty quickly.

Have I Already Said It?….Fishing is Great!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015

This past Sunday was to supposed to be a rain out.  Not!  A little rain yesterday, and I think a few sprinkles this morning, but otherwise, no rain.  At least not yet.  With 90% chance of rain, we’ll maybe see some tonight.  Next big chance for rain looks like Friday.  Temperatures holding in the 60s to 70s.  Sunday is looking like rain also.

We continue seeing two units with a level around 706 and about 6500 cfs on generation.  This is perfect if you have a boat.  Not really good for wade fishing.  Keeping the level steady for several days has really made fishing great!

The Gang - 4/12/15Our annual group that was originated by Dan from Texas fished with us again this past Sunday.  Most have fished with us for the past seven years…some longer and one brand new one this year.   What a day for these guys.  I call them the three corners

Lou - 4/12/15

Lou – 4/12/15

group as a few are from California, a couple from New York and the rest from Texas.  Guides Stan, Darrell, Dana and Jim had to deal with this bunch all day.  Top boat had

Rich - 4/12/15

Rich – 4/12/15

58 fish to the boat and the top fish was a 20 inch rainbow in another boat. Bugs for the day were the ruby 2 under the big ruby, root beer under a big ruby 2, the JQ streamer and the black copperhead midge under a #16 red midge or black d-ribbed midge.  As you can well imagine,

Rich - 4/12/15

a good time was had by all.

Great Days On The Water

Sunday, April 12th, 2015

Although 4-5 days ago it was forecast that today had a 90% chance of rain, we are looking at sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s today.  Beautiful day.  Upper 60s tomorrow and a chance of rain.  Unfortunately, rain just keep bouncing in and out of the forecast.  Right now, we have had enough.  Want to get this water back to wading levels!

Had three mornings last week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, where they had no generation from midnight until 6:00 a.m.  Then they cranked on one or two, then three and finally four before the day was over.  This weekend, they ran the equivalent of two units all weekend.  Monday’s projection is the same, the equivalent of two units.

Lots of trips on the water this past week and fishing has been great.  Everyone catching good numbers and good quality fish, and the weather has been great.  A little windy a few days, but no one is complaining except us guides when we are trying to get a good drift or just sit in one spot!

Stan had Doc from Oklahoma on the water Friday.  Lots of fish on that little ruby 2.  More of the same for Jill and Danielle.  Lots of fish on the

Danielle - 4/10/15

Danielle – 4/10/15

ruby 2.  Jill’s daughter Danielle wanted to try fly fishing, so Jill decided to come along for a good mother-daughter day.  By the end of the day Jill’s

Jill - 4/10/15

Jill – 4/10/15

comment was “I’d do this again…it was fun!”  I think we might have two more fly fishing ladies in our midst. Jim and Dana had a group out of Texas.  Jim had the guys, Paul and Mark and Dana had the ladies, Gail and Tere.  More fish to the boat.  Paul likes pulling streamers, so they were pulling the JQ.  However, they also fished the red midge, ruby midge and hot hare’s ear.  The ladies were catching on the red midge, a big ruby 2 and a red San Juan worm.

Gail - 4/11/15

Gail – 4/11/15

The Texas group hit the water again on Saturday.  This time the ladies fished with Darrell and drug fish in all day on the ruby 2.  Jim had Paul

Tere - 4/11/15

Tere – 4/11/15

and Mark again for more streamer and indicator catching.  Stan had an afternoon trip.  Todd, from Kansas was attending a meeting in the area and just had to wet a line.  He had fished with Stan once before and decided it was time

Todd - 4/11/15

Todd – 4/11/15

to do it again.   He could not believe how fat the fish are.  Yep!  it was the ruby 2 under a big ruby!

We have been sending several folks who want to wade or fish from the bank over to the creeks, Roark and Turkey creeks.  Good reports on these areas from the fishers coming back to get more flies.  One of the couples who fished the mouth of Roark about four days ago said almost any midge color they threw at the fish the fish were taking them.  A gentleman came in this morning to get more ruby 2 and black copperhead midges.  Said he did very well at Turkey creek.  Certainly work looking at until they shut down the water.  Fishing is just good.  Your challenge is getting to them!

Fat Fish!

WINDY!  The wind is out of sight here today.  All the boats were grunching about yesterday’s wind, but today it much worse.  Nice couple days ahead with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.  However, by Sunday, we are looking at chances for thunderstorms early.  Hope it’s early, we have boats out Sunday.

Not running quite as much water as they have been, but I think we will see continued generation each day for a while at least as we are still a little over a half a foot above power pool

Jim - 4/8/15

Jim – 4/8/15

Even with all this water, however, fishing continues to be very good.  Gina had Jim out again and they had a great day on the ruby 2 and the black d-ribbed tunghead midge.  Darrell had Jacob and his grandfather, Mel out for half a day.  This was a new

Jacob - 4/8/15

Jacob – 4/8/15

experience for both of them and they had a great day on a big ruby 2 with the rainbow warrior dropper.  Stan had Dave, from Arkansas, out all day.  They hammered them on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Jim had Derek from Dave 040815Illinois out for half a day.  Took him out again on Thursday.  Couple good days for them on the ruby, hot hare’s ear and the JQ streamer.

Water Everywhere! Good News….Fish Love It!

Monday, April 6th, 2015

Did not get as much water this this last rain as we did with the earlier one.  However, it did set us back a little as far as getting Table Rock Lake down to pool.  Little sprinkles yesterday, but no more in sight for a few days.  Maybe Thursday will bring some more rain.

What can I say.  Maximum generation all day.  There was a slight break……not as much generation……before this last rain, but that was short lived.

Several boats out Saturday.  Jim had Steve, from Illinois out again.  They had a good morning on the ruby with the hot hare’s ear dropper or stripping the JQ streamer.  Al Wood from Michigan, spend the morning with Dana.  They fished a size 20 hare’s ear and the ruby 2.  Darrell and Stan had a group of young men who are attending college together and one of the guy’s father.  Pretty much the first time fly fishing or even fishing! for all of them.  Hope they don’t think the water looks like this all the time!  They did have a good time and even caught some fish.  One was a nice 17″ rainbow.  Big ruby for Stan’s boat, and Darrell was using the big ruby with the rainbow warrior dropper.

Yesterday, in the damp, cloudy day, Gary and his son, Kale took half a day with Stan.  Very good day for these guys.  They regularly fish Taney, and were distraught they could not get on the water.  No problem, into the boat and onto the fish.  Big ruby, with ruby 2 or black midge dropper.

Lots of Rain This Morning!

Friday, April 3rd, 2015

Hit the floor at 4:30 this morning when a clap of thunder and the sound of heavy, blowing rain woke me up.  Seemed like lots of rain, but so far, Table Rock Lake has only come 2/10ths of a foot.  However, I’m sure it will come up some more.  The good/bad news is that they are running four units almost full capacity and the projection is for more of the same tomorrow.  Right now, no major chances for rain for several days and temperatures in the mid 60s for the weekend and70s to 80s for next week.

Gina on the water Wednesday with her regular, Jim from Monett.  They were scheduled for a full day, but came off early when the thunderstorm and lightning were looming in the horizon.  Until then, however, they were having a good day on the black #16 d-rib midge and the black copperhead midge.  Stan was also on water.  He had Don and Gary from Kansas out for half a day.  They started late and found shelter from the rain where they waited out the storm, then back to fishing!  Good day for them too on the same patterns, black r-rib midge and black copperhead midge.

Several boats out tomorrow so we’ll see how she is fishing!
