Good Days Out Number The Tough Days!

Will these “spring rains” ever quit?  80% chance for showers tomorrow.  Temps ranging from low 80s down to upper 70s by Sunday into Monday.  Every day has a chance for showers.  Although tomorrow and next Friday seem to be the biggest chances.  So far, they have not been real heavy rains, but enough to get you wet!

Generators off every day until 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  I think they are scheduled to come on today at 2:00 p.m.   Nice trend.  Better get out and enjoy it.

We seem to be having a run of several very good days of fishing followed by one or two tough days.  You’ll catch some fish on the tough days, but certainly not the numbers you can get on the very good days.  I guess that’s why it is called fishing.

Carolyn had Peter and JoDee on the water last Friday on one of those tough days.  It was one of those days where there was absolutely no water movement.  The water was so still there was a film on the surface.  We finally found a little moving water and hit the jackpot with a hot hare’s ear nymph.  Can’t let this happen….on came the horn and the water started rolling with all kinds of junk in it.  Did find a clean spot at Lookout Island for a little while and pulled out a few more on the holographic green crackleback.

Fortunately, Sunday was a much better day.  Several fishers had registered for the Orvis 301 program offered by their Leawood, Kansas store.  Neat program where they spend the day on the water with a guide, learn a little and catch some fish.  Darrell had Trent and Dan.  Very good day for these guys on the black coperhead midge, P&P and a black zebra midge.  Gina had Jim and Rob.  Good day for these guys, on the same midges plus an egg pattern with a midge dropper.  They also worked on stripipng buggers, crackleback, filoplume and soft hackles.   Jim worked with Paul and

and Leo.  They did well on the CQ streamer or a black midge with a blood worm dropper.  Craig fished with Stan.  It was the P&P and black copperhead midge for them.  All in all, everyone had a great day!   Monday, Jim took a couple of his regulars, Price and Marg out.  It seems that for the past 2-3 years, when they come, it always rains.  This year was no exception.  They spent the morning fishing in the rain, but the good news was it was another catching day.  CQ streamer, copper dun, blood worm dropper and the hot hare’s ear nymph.Stan had Doug, from Texas, out in the rain.  Very good day for Doug on the black copperhead and P&P midges.  Kathi and Bill, from Kansas, fish with Gina on Tuesday.  Pretty good day for these guys on the P&P, black copperhead midge and peach king egg.  It was a

bit tough in the early morning as the water was flat again, but they persevered and caught fish!  Stan took Gary and Jerry from Ohio out for half a day.  Very good day for these guys on pretty much the same patterns.
